Mets Finally Win Something.

After stumbling through the 2003 baseball season with a record of 66 wins and 95 loses, the New York Mets started the new year off on a winning note.

British officials have ruled that the public shouldn't have too much trouble differentiating the New York Mets (the U.S. baseball team) from the British Meteorological Office (the source of weather reports for the United Kingdom).

The squabble stared when the weather agency attempted to prevent the ball club from registering its logo, saying it would be too confusing.

Major League Properties Inc, the merchandising arm of baseball, had applied to register the Mets logo for use on hats, toys, stationery, magazines and other goods for sale in Britain. But Britain's Ministry of Defense, which owns the logo "Met Office" for the weather agency, protested, saying people might not be able to tell the difference.

Doesn't anybody have something better to do than this? Like running a country? Thankfully, the British Trademarks Registrar allowed the baseball team's logo to be registered, saying the public was not likely to believe that the team's goods and services came from the weathermen.

Like, duh!

But the Mets shouldn't be celebrating this victory too long, since the new baseball season will be starting up shortly.
