His Story Checks Out.
It seems a man who fell asleep while driving and
then crashed into a school bus was a bit too forthright when he came to
court. He told a judge that the accident was a result of him being very
tired. The man proceeded to tell the judge that the reason he felt so
pooped was because he stayed up late the night before writing a bunch of
counterfeit checks.
The man's excuse didn't elicit any sympathy from the presiding Carbon
County Judge who sentenced the snoozing driver to up to four years in
prison.
In the accident, the asleep at the wheel driver hit the driver's side of
the bus, causing it to roll onto its side. Almost two dozen people were
injured, including one student who suffered a broken back after he was
thrown from the bus.
The sentence will run concurrent with an 18-month federal sentence he must
serve for participating in a ring that used stolen computers to create
$500,000 of phony payroll and personal checks which were cashed at grocery
stores.
